Changes to Saskatchewan weights and dimensions regulations

The Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) sent out a briefing note April 10, highlighting amendments to vehicle weight and dimension regulations in Saskatchewan expected to be applied in the near future. The association says no firm date on the changes has yet been released.

The STA listed incoming changes that would directly affect their membership:

  • Permit Fee: An implementation of a $15 permit fee, plus any applicable fees that are currently in the regulation. This fee will go towards maintenance on the permit system to increase the speed at which changes are made. The STA believes this is an acceptable approach as it does not leave industry waiting on Cabinet approval for minor condition changes
  • More “high load corridor routes”
  • Some maximum gross vehicle weight changes to twin steering tandem drive truck-full trailer combination
  • Increased wheelbase for truck-tractor units without requiring a permit on some configurations. The increased wheelbase for truck-tractor units may require changes to corresponding trailers wheelbase allowances
  • Changes to escort vehicle signage
  • Changes to the primary highway system
  • Changes to highways allowing 63,500 kilograms

The STA will update members once a release date for the updated regulations has been announced.
